Stars: DeBoer Wants to Have NHL Roster By End of Weekend

Stars Head Coach Pete DeBoer informed the media that he wants to have his NHL group roster by the end of the weekend.

Stars Head Coach Pete DeBoer gave the media an update on Thursday night as to how he and his staff will approach the roster decisions moving forward in the preseason. 



“We’ve got one more game here Saturday, and then we want to get to our NHL group and really take things to another level,” DeBoer said following Thursday’s preseason game. 

Saturday’s game against the St. Louis Blues should be a final tryout for many of the players still hanging around. As it stands, Dallas currently has 52 players on its roster. They will need to get that number down to 23 before opening night, so there are plenty of moves left to be made. 

“That’s where we’ve got to get to,” DeBoer continued. “You are still carrying basically two full teams here, you are still giving long looks to everybody. We want to get to our NHL group here, whatever that number is, sooner rather than later. I have talked to Jim [Nill] and I think that is going to happen over the weekend. Next week, we can really get to work here and start building our game for the start of the season.” 

This means that the final three preseason games (home and home vs Colorado and on the road at Minnesota) should be as close to regular-season action as we are going to get. Expect a heavy NHL lineup, not just for Dallas, but for their opponents as well. We are getting close Stars fans…
