Stars Game Day: Final Tryout for Roster Bubble Players

The Dallas Stars take on the Colorado Avalanche in the preseason tonight in what should be the final tryout for many bubble roster players.

The Stars preseason matchup with the Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday will serve as a final tryout for many of the guys on the bubble of making the NHL roster. The game will be broadcast nationally on TNT.

"Yeah, I think so," Head Coach Pete DeBoer said. "That whole group. A couple of them might get in that last game but I don't think you can bank on that. They are smart guys. The one thing everybody has had here is opportunity. Everybody that's still here has played multiple games for the most part and gotten a chance to play with all different types of people. Another chance tonight but we are getting to the end of the runway."

DeBoer and his staff are expecting to make most of their decisions before Saturday's preseason finale. The plan is to dress a very similar lineup in a dress rehearsal to what we will see on opening next in Nashville.

"That would be the plan," DeBoer said. "We will dress as close to an opening night lineup. It might not be exact but it will be a real good indication of how we are going to start."

Scott Wedgewood will start the game tonight in the mile-high air, with Anton Khudobin expected to get some time in relief. Wedgewood looks to be the leader for the backup position and DeBoer has been impressed with his play and confidence early on.

"He is in that age group where he has enough experience that he is comfortable in what he is at this level," DeBoer said. "But he is also confident enough that he expects to go in there and win games and be a difference maker. It's hard to find that so I think we are fortunate to have him."
