Stars Final Roster: Johnston In , Harley, Stankoven Sent Down
The Dallas Stars announced the final four moves Sunday to get down to their opening night roster.
The Dallas Stars have their roster for opening night after making the final moves on Sunday.
The biggest storyline is that Wyatt Johnston will become just the sixth teenager in Dallas history to play for the Stars as he makes the final roster at 19. Johnston will remain in Dallas likely for at least nine games, at which point the organization will need to decide whether to keep him and begin his entry-level contract or to send him back to juniors for one more season.
Here are the moves made on Sunday:
Riley Damiani – Loaned to Texas (AHL)
Thomas Harley – Loaned to Texas (AHL)
Logan Stankoven – Loaned to Kamloops (WHL)
Will Butcher – Placed on Waivers
Stankoven heading back to juniors was fairly unsurprising as Kamloops will play host to the Memorial Cup this season. For Harley and Damiani, there simply were not enough spots on opening night. Both were the clear first-man out of their respective positions and both are certain to see the NHL ice at some point in 2022-23.
The Stars roster now sits at 24 players total (Nick Caamano will be on IR). Here is how it breaks down for active players:
Forwards (13):
Benn, Dellandrea, Faksa, Glendening, Gurianov, Hintz, Johnston, Kiviranta, Marchment, Pavelski, Peterson, Robertson, Seguin.
Defensemen (7):
Hakanpaa, Hanley, Heiskanen, Lindell, Lundkvist, Miller, Suter.
Goaltenders (2):
Oettinger, Wedgewood.
Dallas opens the season on Thursday against the Nashville Predators before the two teams face off at the American Airlines Center for the home opener on Saturday.
